Watson Eye Associates

Services

Cataract Surgery
Watson Eye Associates is pleased to offer the latest in small incision, no-stitch, cataract surgery. This procedure allows quicker healing and a speedy return to normal activities. Cataract surgery is now done on an outpatient basis with the patient returning home the same day as their surgery and resuming normal activities within a few days.

Contact Lenses
Contact lenses are a safe, effective, and popular means of correcting refractive vision problems. We at Watson Eye Associates offer all types of contacts for the young and old including those "hard to fit" cases with astigmatism and those in need of bifocals. We also provide specialty contact lenses for patients with eye diseases requiring contacts such as keratoconus.  For those wanting a unique look, we have a  complete selection of tinted contact lenses in many colors.

Diabetic Eyes
Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness in our country. Fortunately, it has been shown that early detection and treatment of diabetic eye disease is very beneficial in maintaining good vision. The doctors at Watson Eye Associates are trained and equipped to detect, monitor, and treat many forms of diabetic eye disease. All too often, we see patients who have not sought regular eye care and wait until too late to achieve effective treatment results. This reinforces the need for diabetics to have regular annual eye exams as a minimum and of course sooner if symptoms occur.

Emergency Eye Care
Patients of Watson Eye Associates can rest assured that an eye doctor will be available for them in case of an emergency. Our 24 hour answering service can always contact one of our doctors for our established patients with only rare exceptions. . We also provide on-call services for Nash General Hospital. Call (252) 962-8822 for after hours assistance.

Family Vision Care
Vision problems and ocular disease can occur at any age. Our offices are staffed and equipped to handle the needs of all ages from infants to senior citizens. We recommend that kids have their first complete exam by age four or sooner if problems are suspected by the parent or pediatrician.

As children's eyes grow, their focusing abilities may change which accounts for the frequent eyeglass prescription changes in adolescents. Vision tends to stabilize in the mid - twenties, but as patients get a little older, their risk for eye disease increases. For these reasons, we recommend complete eye examinations for all family members at least every year or two.

Glaucoma Management
Glaucoma is the silent stealer of sight. Many thousands of people who do not even know they have the disease are losing vision to glaucoma. But vision loss from glaucoma is preventable if detected early. That is why it is so important to have regular routine exams including glaucoma checks. Most patients with glaucoma can control the disease with medicated eye drops. Sometimes patients need to have laser treatment and surgery to prevent further vision loss. Our glaucoma patients can rest assured that, whatever their need, our doctors are highly skilled in the medical and surgical management of their disease.

Laser Surgery
Lasers have had a tremendous impact on the delivery of eye and vision care. There are several types of lasers that have many different applications for many different procedures. Our surgeons use lasers to treat glaucoma, retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, capsular clouding after cataract surgery. Our in office laser suite is well equipped with the proper lasers for each of these procedures.

Ocular Diseases
Our doctors are well trained in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of ocular diseases. Whether our patients have acute problems such as eye infections, acute glaucoma, uveitis, and vascular occlusions, or more chronic diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, corneal dystrophies, and macular degeneration, they can rest assured that our doctors will use the latest diagnostic and treatment modalities.

Oculoplastic Surgery
The eyelids and surrounding tissues perform both physiologic and cosmetic functions. Aging, disease, and injury to these tissues can have a marked negative impact on ones quality of life. Through oculoplastic surgery, our visiting oculoplastic surgeons, Dr. Christensen and Dr. Zaldivar, who sees patients at our office once a month, can often restore proper function as well as a desirable cosmetic result for our patients with droopy lids, inturned lashes, and other problems of the lids and surrounding tissues.

Botox®
Botox® Cosmetic is a very simple, non-surgical treatment that can temporally smooth lines and wrinkles on the forehead, in between the eyes and on the crow's feet area. A few tiny injections in the affected area is all that it takes. Results should be noticeable within days. Botox® injections are performed in our office by one of our ophthalmologists. Botox® is also used by our ophthalmologists to treat conditions such as blepharospams and hemifacial spasms. To find out if Botox® is right for you contact our office to set up a free consultation.

Refractive Eye Surgery
Refractive Eye Surgery can be done a number of different ways, including Lasik, Lasek and PRK. These procedures are done to correct myopia and hyperopia and eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses. None of our practicing Ophthalmologists perform any of the refractive procedures, however, we are pleased to co-manage pre and post-op care with TLCLaserEyeCenter in Raleigh and Duke. Our doctors can perform pre-op examinations to determine if patients are good candidates for refractive eye surgery and can perform all post-op examinations, including the required 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 month, and 6 month follow up appointments.
