Dr. Susan A. Watson

In 1989, Susan A. Watson, M.D. founded Watson Eye Associates (WEA) in Rocky Mount after several years in private practice in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Over the years, her practice has grown considerably with support from a satisfied and growing patient population.
Dr. Watson is well credentialed. She completed her undergraduate studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where she was Phi Beta Kappa. She received her Medical Degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1981. She completed her Internship in Internal Medicine at Evanston Hospital-Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
After a three year Residency in Ophthalmology at Michael Reese Hospital-University of Chicago, she completed a Fellowship in Corneal Diseases and Surgery at Ohio State University. Dr. Watson is Board Certified in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Watson advanced her standing in medicine as she earned Fellow status in the American College of Surgeons. She participates in many regional and national medical and ophthalmic societies. Dr. Watson practices general medical and surgical Opthalmology, with special interest in cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and corneal disease.
Active in the communities she serves, Dr. Watson and her husband, Stewart, have four children, Jessica, Emily, James, and Julia.

Dr. Thomas J. Robertson

A native of Suffolk, Virginia, Dr. Robertson joined Watson Eye Associates in January of 1998. Dr. Robertson's academic accomplishments are many. After completing an internship in internal medicine at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Robertson served a two-year tour of duty as a general medical officer with the Marines in Okinawa, Japan.
As a resident of the Navy's nationally recognized ophthalmology program at the National Naval Medical Center, Dr. Robertson was trained by experts in all subspecialty areas of ophthalmology, including rotations at the National Eye Institutes of Health and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. At the Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida, and later at the prestigious Florida Eye Clinic, Dr. Robertson was recognized as an accomplished surgeon, clinician, and teacher.
Dr. Robertson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He practices general medical and surgical Opthalmology, with special interests in cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, anterior segment disease and pediatric ophthalmology.
On a personal side, Dr. Robertson's interests are fishing, enjoying the beach, golfing, running, weight lifting, gardening, and bonsai. He and his wife, Lisa, have two sons, Brandon and Eric.

Dr. Willard N. Shepherd

A native of Rocky Mount, Dr. Bill Shepherd joined Watson Eye Associates in 1993.
Dr. Shepherd graduated with a B. S. degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where he was a James M. Johnston Scholar.
Upon graduation, Dr. Shepherd entered the Pennsylvania College of Optometry earning a B.S. degree in 1979. For his academic and civic achievements while in school, he was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa-International Optometric Honor Fraternity. He was awarded his Doctor of Optometry in 1982. After serving several internships, Dr. Shepherd entered the U.S. Air Force as chief of eye care services at the USAF Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi.
Dr. Shepherd is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Southern Council of Optometrists, and is a past president of the Northeastern District Optometric Society. He has served as a trustee for the North Carolina State Optometric Society and has exemplified excellence in his profession by becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
His special interests in optometry include family vision care as well as the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and ocular urgencies.
On a personal side, Dr. Shepherd is an active member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoys music, playing golf, and woodwork.

Dr. Charlotte A. High
A native of Rocky Mount, Dr. High began practicing optometry with her father, Dr. John High in 1980.
Dr. High earned her B.A. degree in Math from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her graduate work was done at NC State University in Raleigh. In 1980, she completed Optometry School at Pennsylvania College, a member of Beta Sigma Kappa and the International Optometric Honor Fraternity.
She is a member of the American Optometric Association, NC Optometric Society and Northeastern and Eastern Optometric Society.
Dr. High's special interests in Optometry include contact lenses, family vision care and the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases.
Dr. High and her husband, Dr. Bill Deans have three sons, John, Richard and David. They are active in youth activities at First United Methodist Church. She is a volunteer and tutor at the public schools her sons attend.

Dr. Odette M. Houghton
Dr. Houghton joined Watson Eye Associates in June of 2007. She is a retina specialist and assistant professor of Opthalmology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
After graduating as an Honor Graduate in medicine at the Medical School of South Carolina, Dr. Houghton completed an internship at Duke University Department of Internal Medicine followed by a residency in Opthalmology at the Kellogg Eye Center. She then completed a fellowship at the Kresge Eye Institute specializing in medical and surgical diseases of the vitreous and retina.
Dr. Houghton's clinical interests include retinal detachments, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, ocular trauma and uveitis.

Dr. Maurice B. Landers, III
Dr. Landers joined Watson Eye Associates in August of 2008. He is a retina specialist and professor of Opthalmology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Dr. Landers received his MD degree from the University of Michigan in 1963, and completed his residency at UCLA in 1967. He then entered the US Army Office of the Surgeon General and established the Army's first laser safety research laboratory in Philadelphia.
Dr. Landers's clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases and uveitis.
